Compliance & Sustainability

Health and Safety Policies

Stronger Workplace Safety Measures: At Indus Valley, we've significantly enhanced our health and safety policies by implementing more rigorous training for all staff and ensuring regular safety audits. Our warehouses and offices have been redesigned with health and safety in mind, and we've adopted more stringent measures to minimise the risk of accidents and injuries.

Sustainability

Eco-Friendly Materials: Our furniture collection at Indus Valley now includes a higher proportion of sustainably sourced materials, including reclaimed wood. We focus on reducing our carbon footprint by sourcing locally when possible and opting for materials that are both durable and environmentally friendly.

Energy Efficiency: In our warehouse and offices, we've made significant efforts to reduce energy consumption by transitioning to energy-efficient lighting and optimising our logistics for better fuel efficiency.

Waste Reduction Initiatives: We've worked to reduce waste by implementing recycling programs in all areas of our operation. Packaging has been optimised to use less material and more eco-friendly options, such as biodegradable and recyclable packaging materials

Auditing of Suppliers

Ensuring Ethical Standards: Over the past few years, Indus Valley has focused on improving our supplier relationships by ensuring they meet high ethical standards. We now audit all our suppliers to make sure they comply with recognised international standards like SMETA (SEDEX Members Ethical Trade Audit) and BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative), which guarantee that they adhere to ethical labour practices, fair wages, and safe working conditions.

Ethical Sourcing and Transparency: We’ve also made sure that our supply chain remains transparent by sharing reports with customers about our suppliers’ certifications. This includes regular audits and checks to ensure our partners maintain high ethical standards, and we work only with those who can provide proof of these certifications.

FSC Certification

Commitment to Responsible Forestry: Indus Valley has made a strong commitment to sustainable sourcing by ensuring that wood used in our furniture is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified. This certification guarantees that the wood comes from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits.

Promoting FSC to Suppliers: We encourage our suppliers to pursue FSC certification, and we’ve introduced incentives for those who meet or exceed sustainability criteria. This ensures that the entire supply chain is working toward the same goal of responsible forest management.

Supply Chain Traceability and Reporting

Transparency in Our Processes: Indus Valley has invested in technology and systems that help track the origins of the materials used in our furniture, ensuring full traceability and transparency for our customers.

Supplier Auditing: As part of our commitment to upholding our sustainability goals, we audit our suppliers annually to ensure they maintain certifications like SMETA, BSCI, and FSC, and provide the necessary documentation. This rigorous auditing process also ensures that we meet the required health, safety, and environmental regulations across the board.

Customer Education and Engagement

Sustainability Messaging: Indus Valley has been proactive in educating our customers about the sustainability efforts we’ve made, providing them with information about the environmental impact of the furniture they purchase. We ensure that our marketing materials and product labelling clearly reflect our sustainable practices.

Encouraging Responsible Disposal: In line with our commitment to the environment, we’ve introduced a recycling program where we use auctions to dispose of returned furniture, reducing waste and promoting the reuse of materials.
